A massive new factory was built at Dover in 1962 (production began January 1963) and in 1966 Avo closed their main factory in London, moving entirely to Dover.In 1968 Avo was acquired by Thorn EMI who, in 1973, moved another of their subsidiaries, Megger Instruments, to the Dover site to form Avo-Megger. The name comes from ‘Amps, Volts and Ohms Test Meter’.
